Salem, OR (Feb. 17, 2016)— Republican Candidate for Governor Bud Pierce spoke out today on Governor Brown’s silencing of state utility regulators and the backroom energy deal forged by big investor-owned utilities and environmentalists.
In his statement, he said, “The headline in this morning’s Oregonian – State Utility Regulators Were Silenced by Governor on Energy Big Bill is scandalous. Yet, the story reveals that the Oregon’s Public Utility Commission (PUC) voiced concerns early that the backroom agreement between PGE, PacifiCorp and environmentalists is a terrible deal for working Oregonians, but were told to keep quiet.”
Pierce emphasized that this is crony capitalism at its worst. “Working Oregonians will end up paying billions of dollars in higher energy costs to line the pockets of Oregon’s investor-owned utilities. Working Oregonians and citizens on a fixed income will pay for Governor Brown’s now, well-documented, hypocrisy when it comes to government transparency.”
“Sadly, this culture of secrecy in the Governor’s office, going back to John Kitzhaber-Cylvia Hayes, is part of a practice of favoritism shown to big energy and environmentalists. This was evidenced last session, when Brown signed the low-carbon fuel standard legislation which will increase gasoline prices for Oregonians by 19-cents per gallon. This must end. The Oregon Senate should immediately stop this backroom deal. In light of the latest revelation, Governor Brown should make clear that she will not sign the bill if it makes it to her desk,” comments Pierce.
Pierce, who is traveling today to Pendleton to attend the 30th Annual Economic Outlook Luncheon, adds, “The more time I spend time in rural Oregon, the more I realize that they will be hurt the most by the government waste and deceptive behaviors coming from some of our highest elected officials.”
