Band of Brothers Meeting, Bend Chapter

During Bud’s recent visit to central Oregon, he met with one hundred veterans at the Bend Band of Brothers meeting. In attendance at this event, was Bob Maxwell, who is the oldest living Medal of Honor recipient from World War II.

The Band of Brothers is a group that allows for veterans to keep history alive, spend time with each other and pass along events and information. The Bend Chapter is the largest of the Band of Brothers chapters.

Meet Jeanne Arana - Army Veteran

"I joined the Army in 1971 while a sophomore in college. The Army Student Nurse Program paid college tuition and books, plus gave me a Private First Class salary. Upon graduation, I was commissioned a First Lieutenant and headed to basic training in San Antonio, Texas at Fort Sam Houston. I reported to Fort Lewis, Washington and Madigan Army Medical Center where I served my active tour of duty. Rather than leave the service at the end of my tour, I transitioned to the Army Reserves and National Guard and served a total of 23 years. Serving in the military was a natural choice for me. My grandfather, father, uncles, and brothers all served in the military before me. Growing up on a cattle ranch, my parents taught me to work alongside my brothers bucking hay bales, driving tractor, herding cattle. There was no distinction made on who performed which duties. We were all responsible for working the ranch. We were instilled with a belief in service to, and love of, our country. When I think back on my accomplishments, I count my military service as the greatest and highest honor."
